Tresors found from Portobello Road… My Hippy Lady Turquoise Marcasite Earrings:

download4Beautifullllllll teardrop shape turquoises, surrounded by shimmery marcasites… These earrings are a rare combination of bohemian vintage sophistication – I absolutely love them. And best of all, with them they carry a memory of Portobello Road, one of my favorite places.

download1And as always, turquoise makes me dream of faraway places.

By coincidence – or irony of life – as I was writing this a friend of mine just informed of her out of the blue desire and decision to climb to base camp  Mount Everest, after which she plans to make her way for a little visit to Tibet. Knowing the energy level of this lady, I’m rather convinced she’ll actually make it.

Now I’ve heard Tibet calling me throughout my life in so many ways, in so many places, that I just feel one day I’m going to make that journey as well – and this is not just the earrings talking. Twice, I’ve gotten so, so close… First, some 15 years ago when I spent time in Kathmandu – oh it would have been so easy… That time, my travel companion was not interested and I didn’t dare to leave him alone as he wasn’t too experienced with exotic places. Second time, during our world tour Serge and I raffled about it but he wasn’t too keen on Tibet… Grrrrrrrrr I let it go again.

Next time, when opportunity knocks, I’m not going to let it pass me by.

PS. Suski my dear, do you want a travel companion… Admittedly, one with drop dead altitude sickness.. But a bad-ass attitude to battle it. I did once hike my way to Machu Picchu, be it almost crawling, but still..

64972_583252778367890_1928256573_nAs some of you may have noticed, I have a soft spot for vintage jewellery. Well, okay, there are quite a few soft spots in my repertoire… But these lovelies really swept me off my feet.

Only three pairs of these Fine van Brooklin treasures were made and each pair found a new home in record time, even to my artist friend Lea’s standards. These earrings feature STUNNING vintage 830 silver filigree adorned with marcasite (originally from a 1930’s bracelet) with just a pair of beautiful freshwater pearls added, alongside some very nice, a little out of the ordinary sterling silver hooks.

No hassle, just plain gorgeous treasures from the past. Just the way I love them.

Lea (creatriss of the Fine van Brooklin jewellery) has such uncanny sense for naming her treasures, don’t you think!

Getting a little surprise gift in the form of Say You Love Me earrings would sure work wonders in adding some serious Va-Va-Voooooom to  woman’s day… A little tip to you gentlemen out there – now that would be a way to kick off a Monday morning with your lady love ♥.

My friend, jewellery designer Lea (Fine van Brooklyn), has set up a little atelier in Kaartinkaupunki. So charming it was, and so full of Lea’s free bohemian spirit, that once I’d arrived I found it difficult to leave.

A further temptation were a magnificent pile of 1920’s fashion magazines that Lea’s husband had given to her for Christmas. In mint condition, with the most stunning black/white photos of jewel-encrusted evening gowns, flapper girls, tailored jackets and most exquisite robes…

I could have spent the whole day on those magazines. Well, I almost did.

Each picture a work of art…

Each story a little voyage over time and place.

This baby is something that I didn’t have a word for, in any language. In Finnish, I was educated, we call it Latomokasti. Anyways, she comes from India, and she is a perfect display shelf for a jewellery designer.

After this little excursion I can thoroughly feel what Virginia Woolf was talking about with the concept of every woman needing a room of her own.

No kids. No mess. No arguing, no screams of joy. Nothing waiting to be fixed, folded, washed or cooked. Nobody to be consoled, scolded, entertained.

Just mood matching music. OR silence. Her own stuff. Her own thoughts. Her own inspiration.

Her own moment.

You can probably guess what I’m thinking and plotting here… I’ll keep you posted.

Shall it be mine?

In the form of earrings, that is. On Monday I shall court these True Romance earrings at an atelier of my favorite jewellery artist Lea “Fine van Brooklyn” in Ullanlinna, and maybe, just maybe, they will come home with me…

Light as a feather but 8cm long stunners, these delicate earrings feature Swarovski crystals, smoky quartz and amazonite, wrapped with silver wire with gold-fill findings and hooks.

I so admire Lea’s ability to create such uniquely beautiful pieces, with that signature bohemian twist.

These darlings speak summer to me.

One thing in my life that i cannot be with out… is my Chanel 5 perfume which I’ve used, well, always. Some ladies change their perfume based on trends, fashion, novelties etd. But Chanel 5 has always been… me.

Just a little drop creates a really sensual feel as it melanges with the individual scent of your skin. And if you use just the drop, it can only be felt very close which also adds a sweet allure…

I never, ever travel without my Chanel – I feel naked without it. We’ve even made a world tour together 🙂

The crystal bottle in the background in an antique piece from the family from France, the cameé is also antique, from Italy. The pearlstring is for the hair or forehead, by the lovely Oona Elena Kassila

This cute tiny vintage bag below has followed me through thick and thin. And it shows, in both of us…

Every time we go out, tiny beautiful pearls are found everywhere. In the bed, bathtub, my hair… Yet somehow, I like how after every adventure we get a little bit more shaggy together.

I conclude this little defilée of my treasures by my dearest silver ancle chain, from India of course. The delicate silver & pearl necklace is from Taxco, Mexico, and the 1940’s suede gloves are from a French antique market.

The new is represented by the suede heels which are a perfect shade of slightly shimmery antique gold, although the picture really doesn’t do them justice. I got these as a consolation price when my Yves Saint Laurent vintage shoes were stolen – would you believe it! – practically from my feet.

More on that little adventure in St. Paul de Vence can be found here.

…at the delicious vintage boutique Garbo Vintage.

Antique Old World Ethereal Beauty Wedding Gown

The lovely owner of Garbo Vintage, Yvonne Correa Plaza, offered to take photos of me in her most treasured pieces. Above and below, a 1920’s wedding gown in ivory silk and antique lace.

A dress that truly makes a woman feel like a Goddess …♥.

Yvonne had another wedding dress in a unique beautiful turquoise aqua color; probably colored from the original ivory into a party dress after the wedding. Ah the practicality of the 1940’s…

It fitted beautifully with an antique piano shawl in turquoise, with coral roses…

A real darling was also this pearl-encrusted satin vintage evening bag ♥.

… and other vintage tresors…♥.

Richly decorated details… In satin, silk, tulle, leather, fur…

Garbo Vintage is a real treasure trove. The more you dig, the more treasures come up.

The jacket is ocelot.

Like something straight out of Aladdin’s cave…

I loved (and bought) these long ivory colored 1920’s shammy gloves with tiny buttons… Too luxurious, and in perfect shape. Ah.

Yvonne’s most precious piece (at least one of them) is this 19th century wedding gown in silk and handmade lace, with a long divine train…

It is so gorgeous form all angles; below, from the back:

To top it all, the simple silk dress on the inside can be worn separately, after:

Soooooo yummy…

Every vintage boutique must have at least a little bit of Audrey in it…

…a little something from the legendary Savile Row…

… and a little something for the Charleston…♥.

And our investigative reporter signs over and out, sounding a little bit like a cat who just had a very full bowl of cream..

Kaulakoru koristekivillä Accessorize, helmikoru hiuksille Oona Elena Kassila, puku/hiuskoru Accessorize

Alla vielä toinen setti joka herättää usein ihailua ihan vieraissakin… Joten näistä hankinnoistani olen oikein erityisen ylpeä.

Hopea/kristallikaulakoru vintagea, ranskalaiset korvikset 1920-luvulta. Molemmat löytöjä ranskalaisilta brocantemarkkinoilta eli paikallisilta antiikkikirppiksiltä.  Mustavalkeiden korvisten mustat helmet vintagea, valkeat puolestaan uusia makeanvedenhelmiä; ihanan Lea Kähkösen uudelleensovittamana.

Raskasta kristallia oleva pullo hopeisine korkkeineen on ranskansuvun perintöä 1800 -luvun lopulta.

Kuvassa näkyvä ihana vanha lipasto marmoripäällysteineen on puolestaan lahja rakkaalta ystävältäni.

Kauniita unia teille kaikille ihanille LadyBohemian ystäville♥.
