Tresors found from Portobello Road… My Hippy Lady Turquoise Marcasite Earrings:

download4Beautifullllllll teardrop shape turquoises, surrounded by shimmery marcasites… These earrings are a rare combination of bohemian vintage sophistication – I absolutely love them. And best of all, with them they carry a memory of Portobello Road, one of my favorite places.

By coincidence – or irony of life – as I was writing this a friend of mine just informed of her out of the blue desire and decision to climb to base camp  Mount Everest, after which she plans to make her way for a little visit to Tibet. Knowing the energy level of this lady, I’m rather convinced she’ll actually make it.

Now I’ve heard Tibet calling me throughout my life in so many ways, in so many places, that I just feel one day I’m going to make that journey as well – and this is not just the earrings talking. Twice, I’ve gotten so, so close… First, some 15 years ago when I spent time in Kathmandu – oh it would have been so easy… That time, my travel companion was not interested and I didn’t dare to leave him alone as he wasn’t too experienced with exotic places. Second time, during our world tour Serge and I raffled about it but he wasn’t too keen on Tibet… Grrrrrrrrr I let it go again.

Next time, when opportunity knocks, I’m not going to let it pass me by.

PS. Suski my dear, do you want a travel companion… Admittedly, one with drop dead altitude sickness.. But a bad-ass attitude to battle it. I did once hike my way to Machu Picchu, be it almost crawling, but still..

IMG_4425This divine little vintage shop along Portobello road was actually so small and so full of treasures that they were able to only let a handful of customers in at a time! I’ve never seen that before… People would ring the doorbell and wait outside in a queue 🙂 .

IMG_4426Most of the treasures came from France, as did Emmanuelle the owner, who kindly took these photos. Thank you Emmanuelle!

IMG_4423Look at that lamp shade! Art deco?

IMG_4429One pair of vintage silver and marcasite earrings left home with me – an even more beautiful pair than the one above – as well as the antique 1920’s shawl in shimmery old rosa velvet below… The shawl carries so much charm with it that photos just won’t do it justice ♥.

IMG_4430Huh, outside you had to hold on to your hair, with all the wind… The funny silly thing about Londoners though, is that they warm up the cafés and restaurants outside to such a temperature that you can (sometimes have to!) take your coat off! Midwinter! We even had to ask them to put the heat down, several times, as it was simply too hot to handle.

And inside, those Brits keep the heating so low that all the time I spent in my hotel room was spent in bed, strictly under a feather blanket. Two feather blankets, actually.

Bags, bags, authentic vintage bags in pristine condition… Rare. I’ve hunted beaded vintage bags from France for years but never found so many, such flawless ones (and actually vintage/antique instead of Far Eastern reproductions!).  The rosa leather one is mine and the knitted one with  silver decoration from the 20’s became mine, with a very reasonable price. The beaded one was soooooo lovely and cute, every pearl attached… But not my color.

For the treasure hunt I wore Jasmin Santanen Paris velvet trousers, Zara lace shirt, long burgundy gloves by Designer’s Remix, bag by Carroll France and a fur by Ajatar.

Hope you enjoyed this little walk down Portobello road with me!

Thank you for reading.

You make me happy, just by being there ♥.

64972_583252778367890_1928256573_nAs some of you may have noticed, I have a soft spot for vintage jewellery. Well, okay, there are quite a few soft spots in my repertoire… But these lovelies really swept me off my feet.

Only three pairs of these Fine van Brooklin treasures were made and each pair found a new home in record time, even to my artist friend Lea’s standards. These earrings feature STUNNING vintage 830 silver filigree adorned with marcasite (originally from a 1930’s bracelet) with just a pair of beautiful freshwater pearls added, alongside some very nice, a little out of the ordinary sterling silver hooks.

No hassle, just plain gorgeous treasures from the past. Just the way I love them.

Lea (creatriss of the Fine van Brooklin jewellery) has such uncanny sense for naming her treasures, don’t you think!

Getting a little surprise gift in the form of Say You Love Me earrings would sure work wonders in adding some serious Va-Va-Voooooom to  woman’s day… A little tip to you gentlemen out there – now that would be a way to kick off a Monday morning with your lady love ♥.

A favorite find from the St. Tropez Christmas Antiques Market:

And Mamie’s fireplace, one of my favorite places in the whole wide world.

A perfect little moment of peace when life is beautiful…

A few days ago we visited a Christmas antiques market in the brisk and bright sun of St. Tropez.

A very sophisticated and refined aunty Thérèse – whom I admire tremendously and who in her youth studied “les beaux-arts” at the Louvre – visited the antique fair with me. She knew the story and background of every object at the market. I hung onto every word of hers, trying to learn and capture every detail.

One of these years, I too will know something…

At this point, I only know what I like. That is these 1920’s earrings created from deep burgundy garnets, marcasites and old silver. Beautifullll…. And even though Thérèse can spot a fake from a scary distance, she accepted my find 🙂 🙂 🙂 .

We had such a lovely time. Thérèse kindly admired my taste and passion for all items worn and vintage, and I enjoyed her knowledge and expertise. Her talent, although a source of great fun, didn’t make us very popular amongst the antique market people… Thérèse was able to blow the whistle on too many hustlers there…

Still, I managed to find another pair of antique earrings to treasure:

These silver, crystal and marcasite darlings Thérèse declared unique, from the 1920’s as well.

Victory!
(Although, I would have bought them even if they were brand new…)

The last piece of advice from Thérèse was that these earrings should be worn with a little black dress, when going out for something special.

Promptly, I took them out yesterday, to Monaco. We went to see a modern rendition of the Swan Lake at the Grimaldi Forum with some friends. The tickets were a very thoughtful Christmas gift that I received, but…. Looking around I realized that Monaco truly isn’t a place for vintage. It’s for everything new, shiny, expensive, big brand names kinda place.

Me and my little treasures, my earrings and a 60’s vintage handbag borrowed from Mamie, were totally out of place amongst all the gliterrati.

Nevermind, I decided.

Elegance is an Attitude.

Right?
