~* Beauty *~

I had the great honor to act as the Official Photographer at my darling friend Noora’s graduation.

So many beautiful memories from that day of sunshine. Will tell you later, now just a little taste of the beauty.

IMG_9736Mother’s speech, not a dry eye in the room.

IMG_0085
The only thing of it that I can remember through my tears, is how the name Noora symbolises light in many cultures. Poignant.

Noora

A fun event I visited yesterday… Thank you Elle Magazine!

Elle

With the charismatic and gorgeous editor of Elle Magazine, Mirva Saukkola.

Ok, now heads up all you guys who read my blog… I know you’re out there… You can stop reading right about now.

This one is purely girly stuff.

IMG_0753

I’m a bit of a sucker for real romance, so I was pulled right into those wedding jitters when tears came to Chris’ eyes, as he watched Madeleine walking down the aisle towards him… Ok, at that point, he had me.

The dress I found conservative and… kind of safe. Lacking that uuuumph wow factor we’re so often treated with by her. That being said, Madeleine is the most beautiful princess ever. And how Chris looked at her – nothing else really mattered.

IMG_0754

Fine, that kiss wouldn’t make the knees melt, but he made up for it after, with the longest kissing scene in royal wedding history. Forgiven.
And again, so sweet that during the actual ceremony they held hands, Chris kept on fighting back tears, he asked her if she was tired, she checked if he was okay… So caring, so real. This wedding did it for me.

IMG_0770

Some serious analysis on the all of it, by Mirva Saukkola, Teri Niitti and Anu Laapotti. Anu had just the most perfect dress; it suited her like a glove. By H&M Conscious Collection. And I’m sorry, my photo doesn’t do justice to Mirva’s head piece or earrings…. Royal stuff.

After the Ja and the I will, we needed to feel the sun of our skin… So lovely how even eveningtime, you can just bask in the sunlight. Please please make this last…

IMG_0686

MY DRESS I’m so happy about. Never in my life have I worn anything green, but when I saw this beauty all my principles were out the window. This divine silk and lace dream is by Jasmin Santanen Couture.

My 1920’s inspired long pearl necklace, by Oona Elena Kassila. Emerald and diamond ring is a French family heirloom that has come to me after generations of mothers. I love the history it carries… Long silver and pearl earrings are an antique find from France, will get you a better picture later..

~* Vappu *~

Our vappu this year was made of friends & family, balloons & rosies, and a picnic.

IMG_8673I couldn’t find my hat but the hair rose served as such…

IMG_8716My darling goddaughter Helmi with Papa Eric.

IMG_8728A certain somebody had Papa wrapped around her little finger..

IMG_8830Hanski’s wedding basket, converted into a bona fide picnic basket ♥.

IMG_8649My Baby in active pursuit. Sometimes a balloon – or a football – is all that’s needed.

IMG_8787Or a slippery rock you can slide down.. Uh we should really learn from our children.

IMG_8778My darling Tytti, my darling Serge. So nice to see the smiles of loved ones all around.

Friends are the new family, we concluded with Tytti. I believe so.

IMG_8635Beautiful Tytti with her son N-N. He’s such a wise soul, he never ceases to amaze me. We’ve had the most extraordinary conversations on topics ranging from Nelson Mandela, human kindness, racism, the good and the evil. Once, my sons told him about how we’d seen a man loot the local Siwa store for beer. N-N said Hmmmmm… Maybe the man really needed the beer and had no money to buy it. Just like somebody who has no money might need to steal milk for his baby.

That left my boys seriously thinking.

IMG_8689French Baron Gabriel, who has lived in Finland since World War 2, graced our little group with his presence yet another time. A very, very interesting personality with a very, very interesting life.

IMG_8825My Hanski!!! I’m so lucky to have her in my world. And selfishly, I’m sooooo glad she doesn’t live abroad anymore.

AND she wants to take me on a girls’ road trip next weekend. Sauna (haven’t been in more than a year), swimming in a lake (haven’t done in more than two years – I wonder if I’m still Finnish), good food, good conversation, long sleep, best of company. I’m so ready.

IMG_8826

And last but not the least… Nobody makes hair rosies like my friend Mariannlinn Le Fay. This is a piece of her artwork, made of finest wools and  laces, all hand dyed

IMG_8678*

IMG_8671Till next time my friends, now I’m off for my weekend escape. Sauna anda a swim, here I come!!!

~* Mysteriet *~

My friends got us ringside seats AND an invitation to watch the last rehearsals of the finale of the Voice of Finland – thank you Merru & Sini!!! You offered me the most wonderful evening!

IMG_8471

The cool dudes – melting hearts with their very energetic rendition of  “Jos mä olisin sun mies”.

IMG_8478

Oh I hope Ike will get a record deal… I really love his soft voice and soulful sound. And would you believe it, after the show I actually gathered my courage and went to introduce myself to him. I have an event coming up later in the autumn and I was hoping he could possibly sing a few songs there… Let’s talk about it, later, he said and gave me his email address.

Wow. I’m still amazed I dared to ask. Very unlike me.

Ericiltä

There was a very tall and angrylooking security guy who was not happy if anyone sat on the stage or even touched it (even after the show). So secretly I brushed against it anyway… Rebel me.

IMG_8463A winning performance. There’s something about Antti Railio that the crowds really respond to. I hadn’t sensed it from tv but in a live show it was so clear you could touch it.

IMG_8465And some wouldn’t stay on their seats..

IMG_8617Some got tangled up in each other…

IMG_8542Some had their make up and microphone fixed at the same time.

IMG_8590

*

IMG_8532*

IMG_8488The most soulful, the most touching performance of the evening was by and far Mysteriet by Emilia Ekström and Lauri Tähkä.

IMG_8576Remember all the trash some papers have written about the bad blood and disputes between some of the VoF cast? Well, just looking at these pictures puts all that into perspective. Such warm support they offered each other; this is the stuff that has created the success of this show. Real people, real feelings.

IMG_8579*

IMG_8507This photo brings me back to my school days when Michael’s picture was hidden inside my school desk… Just taking a peek at it every now and then brightened even the most miserable of days.

IMG_8589Cinderella shoes…

IMG_8569Last moment fix..

IMG_8595

And it’s a wrap!

IMG_8604

Right here, at the last bow my camera battery went blank. You’d think it was good timing but no no no…. So much fun still followed, the afterparty and all.

But that must be left to imagination now 🙂

IMG_8386Last Friday, my friends and I got to witness the last rehearsals of the Grande Finale of the Voice of Finland. Soooooo interesting…

IMG_8398

All the songs were performed to the empty Logomo, with just the judges and tv crew watching.

IMG_8441Last minute interviews, last minute tips.

IMG_8457

*

IMG_8416Mysteriet ♥.

IMG_8444Last look at the notes, then ready, steady, go!

I love experiencing the behind the scenes action of events I cover for LadyBohemia; it gives a totally different angle to the actual show. There’s so much liveliness, blunders, laughter, mishaps that never make it to television. But I love knowing what goes into the making of a perfect show :).

Tomorrow is going to be a Thelma & Louise experience for me – we’re taking the car and heading to Turku to watch the finals of the Voice of Finland competition. Even more than that, I look forward to following the last rehearsals… We’ve been invited to Logomo to watch some behind the scenes action. Hmmmm that’ll be an interesting day…

IMG_0761

And furthermore, Justin Bieber with his Bieber fever has arrived in Helsinki, traffic is at a standstill and hysterical teenage girls are chanting “Justin come out” in the center so loud we can almost hear it at home…

It’s time to leave town.

One more sign of spring was the spring fashion show at Helsinki’s best shoe (and clothing) boutique, Nina’s.

IMG_7787

Peekaboo!

Hmmmmm… What’s in store for us… Hidden behind the velvet curtain…

IMG_7792Well well… Gorgeous clothes; Dries van Noten, Carven, Chloé and Céline bags, Louboutin and Repetto shoes.

This flowy silk dream on the right just must be worn with flowers in one’s hair, barefoot… You can just imagine the sandy beach beneath her feet.

IMG_7765

I especially loved the hats.

Sanna Saastamoinen-Barrois with Niina Kurkinen

Sanna Saastamoinen-Barrois (http://sannasaastamoinen-barrois.blogspot.fi/) is in my opinion one of Finland’s most talented photographers – I admire her innovative ability to look at things from a completely new angle.

I especially enjoyed the work she did on the theme of circle, bringing together the roundness of balloons and the figure of her pregnant friend Pipsa Hurmerinta. Beautiful, sensual, elegant. Something totally new and fresh compared to the tired Demi Moore repetitions.

You can see this work of art, Swirling Light, in the latest Image, and later on it’ll be exhibited in Paris. Sanna’s husband Jeremy Barrois has also directed a video on the theme… Go check it out, it’s beautiful.

Well, back to the fashion show… And all those funky, sexy, cools shoes…

IMG_7789*

IMG_7790Those Louboutins I want!

IMG_7845*

IMG_7821

Virpi Suutari & everybody enjoying the sweet treat…

That’s the sign of a REAL pro… When u don’t need a huge impressive camera to capture the moment.

IMG_7847

Sanna & Pipsa Hurmerinta

*

IMG_7815

Anna is wearing electric blue Louboutins and a striking Carven dress, all from Nina’s. Purrrrrfect with her flaming hair.

The lovely Anna Puu swooned us with her soft voice and sweet guitar… She claimed she doesn’t really know how to play it, and then proved herself wrong :).

IMG_7834Niina with the Top Chef, tv host, model, mother to be beauty Pipsa Hurmerinta.

IMG_7842I especially love this picture of Sanna, as she’s watching the performance of her friend Anna Puu.

In the warmth of her expression, you can almost touch the closeness and friendship between the two. Sanna has also photographed Anna’s album cover and directed her video “Kolme pientä sanaa”, which was just nominated for an Emma award for the best music video of the year.

Uhhuh knowing all that makes me rather self conscious about publishing these little photos of mine…

IMG_7869And back to fashion… This was my choice, the sweetest tiny beaded Jamin Puech bag.

IMG_7873

I was wearing a Jasmin Santanen lace shirt with velvet burgundy Jasmin Santanen trousers. Comfy, soft, beautiful all time favorites.

Hih… Sanna with her tiny camera, Niina with her even tinyer Pikku Myy mobile..

IMG_7829

Virpi – below – has just directed a documentary slash movie called Hilton… It tells the story of young adults, outcasts, drifters, drop-outs, living in a rather gross block building in Eastern Helsinki.

The Hilton. I ACTUALLY USED TO LIVE IN THAT VERY SAME BUILDING! Two awful years. When I was a young, totally broke student. I haven’t seen the movie yet but I simply have to make that trip down memory lane one day… Easy it’s not going to be. Just seeing the movie posters reminded me of one night, as I was coming home from work, and the police were there with an ambulance. Somebody was carried out on a stretcher, with a white sheet over his whole body. A neighbour of mine. He was dead. Not of natural causes.

IMG_7863*

IMG_7887

Daniel Pallillo, Sanna Saastamoinen-Barrois, Anna Puu.

This last pictures captures the feeling of our evening rather poignantly.

Intimate, fun, interesting. Beautiful fashion and the nicest, most inspiring people from all walks of life coming together.

Niina truly can create an ambiance.

Thank you for having me, I had a lovely evening with you ♥.

Tea time filled with secrets and dreams, secret dreams, still only spoken about in whispers, but actually becoming reality. So many pieces are just falling into place that I simply can not believe it. I really thought that Lady Luck had abandoned me for good but now, I find myself in her favor again.

Can’t wait to tell you what we’re planning, plotting, preparing… But this I can say already. I just know you are going to love it.

As soon as there are names on papers, I’ll let you in on what is my future. Now please, my dear readers, keep all your fingers and toes crossed for me…

Today’s outfit consisted of old meeting new as is the case oftentimes… Burgundy leather skirt, a find from Paris some 15 years ago. Odd Molly silk blouse. Suede ankle boots, Calvin Klein, found secondhand from Kaivarin kanuuna. Stockings, found from London some 10 years ago, worn the first time here.. Pearls on my hips, a gift from Oona Elena Kassila. Golden bracelet, gift from my father, 34 years ago from Zambia.

It’s difficult to write when you’re speechless and breathless.

Last night was one of those nights that originally inspired me to start writing LadyBohemia. I discovered something, magical, that I’d like to share with you.

IMG_4948

At Tango Frostbite festival, celebrating 100 years of Argentinian Tango in Finland.

Argentinian tango.

A world of it’s own it is… With etiquette full of poise, grace and passion.

The men don’t actually ask you to dance, with words that is. They invite with a look, oftentimes from across the room. Without a word, the couple move to each other and for that moment in time, everything else disappears. The woman follows the man’s moves with total intensity, oftentimes with eyes closed, as they create their own universe, improvised and incredible.

IMG_4994 BW

I can imagine this to take place in a smoky club in Buenos Aires, but my little Helsinki… Thank you my darling hometown, for once again blowing my mind wider open.

A beautiful dancer Katja sat down next to me and explained. “During the dance, you need to feel that this is the only man in the world, the love of your life.”

Oh it was perfection.

My friend Sissi, who actually had the idea to introduce us to Argentinian Tango, now has a new hobby. She has enrolled on tango classes.

I’m not quite sure if I’d dare… But must admit, I’d want to.

Tango can save your life, whispered Katja in my ear.

I believe her.

On Wednesday, I was invited to the movie premiere of “21 ways to ruin a marriage”. What a great evening we had… Movie was feelgood funny, new and old friends were all around – an evening of laughter and friendship it was.

71403_554279804590145_1929967355_n

The dress code for the event was, of course, a wedding dress.

64840_405756782847371_1870152937_n

The fairest of all the brides amongst the cast & crew was our lovely Duchess Hannele with her vintage inspired lace wedding dress, soft white Dior boots and a three-string pearl necklace.

Chic, sophisticated, feminine. Accessorized with the warmest smile.

IMG_3588

Make-up artist extraordinaire Hannele Herttua with a bona fide fashionista and make-up artist in the making, Jemina Pouttu.

The rest of us dressed up – or down – in a very unwedingly fashion. The queen of the fashionistas in attendance was, once and again, Heli Kajo. She had a quirky turquoise bag to go with her fuscia top and gold jewellery. Cool bold colors that I could never pull off… And Heli always does.

IMG_3495Black pailleted dress, Givenchy suede over the knee boots, vintage silver and marcasite earrings (a gift from Pipsa!), and a Chanel bag was as weddingly as I got.

IMG_3559

One of the truly lovely people I got to meet that evening was Laura Reunanen, who had just published her first album the day before! She was so kind and even gave me a copy of her cd – Café de Abejas: Mascot Moth – and I must say… I haven’t stopped listening to it since.

And could you imagine, this lady has actually composed “Les Fleurs du mal” by Baudelaire into chanson. My imagination wouldn’t ever have reached those highs… But in fact, my husband gave me that very book by Baudelaire for Xmas…  Now I have just the music to listen to, when I dive into his poetry. Incredible.

True class: lace dress Zara, pearls Kristiina Metsi, lace cuffs Moonalia, boots Dior.

Then there was the afterparty…

With complimentary wedding cakes, perfectly styled for each of the impossible marriages of the film.

426598_554278081256984_405393640_nThe cakes were too yummy… This is what the table looked like when we were through with them..

480887_554278347923624_538852940_nThe beautiful Jemina had real problems at the afterparty… There was such an interest for her phone number that our table was surrounded by quite a buzz throughout the evening… Not to mention the bombardment of text messages, after her number was discovered…

AND a shoulder to cry on when the world roughs a little person up and down and all around.

Eeva Hautamäki & Hannele Herttua.

I get you, Johanna Vuoksenmaa. After this movie, I too wanted to kiss Armi Toivanen.

Or Riku Nieminen, if I’m quite honest… Never ever again will I associate that man with Munamies 🙂 .

Sorry dear readers outside Finland, there are things that just don’t translate…

I’ll finish with this scene – one of the funniest in the movie. Sorry, no translation….
