This dress is perfect for every occasion.

I bought it for the holidays as I knew I’d have to get together with some people who really don’t like me at all and always make me feel uncomfortable and insecure. As any woman knows, having a killer dress makes those events that crucial little bit easier…

This year one can say I was armed to the teeth as I wore this dress and carried my new old vintage Chanel handbag (which I shall show you a little bit later…).

Dress by French mark Sague, bought from Susanna Penttilä's boutique Férrer

And yes, the whole ordeal did feel slightly less heavy and exhausting than normally…

I guess this really is a woman thing – or have you ever met a man whose mood and assertiveness could be considerably lifted by the right dress? Not to mention, by the right bag…

Dance like nobody’s watching;

love like you’ve never been hurt.

Sing like nobody’s listening;

live like it’s heaven on earth.

– Mark Twain-

I manage occasionally. At best.

Well. Everyone’s got to start somewhere, right…

A New Year’s resolution?

Well, actually mine was to call my mother every day.

Instead the headline came to me when a friend texted me with a problem today.

She has one too many tiaras.

Titti, you’re an inspiration.

Today we were reunited with family members whom we have missed so so so so sososososo much… Audrey & Emmy.

We met the lovely ladies in the historical & cultural surroundings of Aix-en-Provence.

We’ve met our dear cousins only once in this life, in New Caledonia on the other side of the world, and that was one of the warmest experiences in a lifetime. Although they’d never seen us or heard from us before, we were welcomed at the airport by Tahitian dances, flower garlands, and a full family who considered us their very own.

And now, after years and years, we reunited for a moment, in the spectacular city of Aix.

So lovely, so perfect.

AND some family members might even brave the cold and come to visit us in Finland!

Our dear Tahitian cousins, you are welcome anytime. It might be cold outside but the hearts of the faraway Finnish cousins will keep you warm.

Promise♥.

A warm welcome 2012!

My year started heartbreakingly sweetly when I heard a little conversation from the children’s room right before my sons fell asleep. During the awful 2011 – now officially the hardest year of my life, in every respect – even my little ones have had to come to terms with illness and pain. Losing someone they loved. Realising he’ll never, ever come back. Even though they tried so hard to find ways to cheat destiny (Maman, are the magicians of the circus real? If they can do magic, could they bring back a person who has died?).

So. The conversation of the children’s room was the one I’ve feared, and felt coming along for some time as my sons have struggled to find reasons and excuses for no-one else around them to fall ill, grow old or die. For no-one else to leave them.

My little one asked his big brother: Can mothers die?

Brother, shocked: No!!!! We can’t live without maman!!!

Little One, assured: Right… Mothers can’t die if they have little children.

Brother, with that sweet child’s logic: I can’t live without Maman because she always smells so good.

Little One, affectionately: And she’s so cute.

(PikkuÄiti on niin söpö (!!!!!)).

Oh. My heart choked. And with these words we started this new year.

Please, 2012, go easy on us.
